Hi Wingi. Welcome to the club.
I see you got the Diesel. This is a pretty good work horse for towing. You will probably get around 25 mpg whilst towing if your engine is well serviced.
MPG vary's depending on how well the engine is performing. Bad engines get around 18 MPG and good engines get around 30 MPG.
Towbar depends on what your budget is. You can wait around for a second hand one. Maybe request one in the wanted section further down the forums. Or you can get a brand new one on eBay for around £100
Common problems with the diesel are service related normally. New filters and fresh oil make a world of difference to them.
However rather than get a new air filter I would go for an induction kit.
Induction kit on eBay £18.50 delivered where as a cheapy standard filter will be about £12. Worth the little extra money as your MPG and performance increase with an Induction Kit.

Oil Filter here. £8.37 delivered.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160532747730
Fuel Filter £6.40 delivered.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250138840500
Under the passenger seat on the intake manifold you will see a diamond shaped plate with an A on it. Get some liquid gasket. Remove the plate and you will pull out a tube.
This tube tends to get gunked up. If you clean this out and pop it back in with some liquid gasket then it will run better.
If you need any more info then pop a post in the help section.

Re: newbie saying hello
oh,do you drive and auto now or manual.if manual you will have to learn a new way of driving.it sounds daft but you should ease of the gas more with a diesel and when coming to junctions leave of the gas earlier than you would in a manual.basical chill abit when driving lol
