Hi
ive seen a Largo for sale near me with a snapped cambelt and fancy a project
i would like to convert it into a day van/camper
its all down to see how cheap i can get it for.
im probably better off swapping the engine out rather than trying to replace pistons and valves!
thanks!

Re: Hi All from South Wales
Welcome, is it the black one with the smashed valve lifter? Yeh definitely better swapping the whole engine if you get it.
As a guide, a non-runner in decent bodily shape & tidy interior would be worth about £350ish maybe £400 absolute top dollar if it was otherwise mint. Of course with a non-runner you can't test drive so you're effectively taking a gamble on the rest of the drivetrain being in good shape, whether the gearbox shifts well/if the axles are quiet/bushes & balljoints not knocking their bollocks off etc.
The way I look at any non-running purchase is that I'm only paying for the bodyshell & interior plus the weight of the drivetrain/suspension in scrap iron

By the way, there's a fly-by-wire 2.0TD engine on ebay at the moment from a 1997 'star. £350 delivered free. The seller is "kentautoparts1" and I've bought a couple of bits off them lately & been impressed by their service

Hi ma70ld28
thats the one im looking at.
ive put an offer in for it
like you said its a gamble on the drive train etc
the bodywork im not too bothered on, as i used to have my own SMART Repair company
and have no issues on painting, interior repairs etc.
thanks for the heads up on the engine, will the old one be fly by wire?

Re: Hi All from South Wales
I believe the one we're talking of is a 1995 so can be either, but I've seen a video asking for diagnosis when the cambelt first snapped & it is indeed a fly-by-wire yes... (worth keeping/selling the pump off the scrap engine too as they're a common failure point on these)
Bodywork, look out for rust more than damage with being an import, you ain't gonna massage tin worm out of the boot floor
By the way, on the facebook pages he's said he won't take less than £500 (keeps saying about a new starter that cost £220)... you can but try though... Good luck making a deal, if not there's plenty of others around that do run...
