Please help

Post by hilsley »

Hi there, my son is currently driving a 1998 Largo Highway Star 2.0 Diesel Automatic around europe and he has encountered gearbox problems somewhere in Germany. The gearbox will run in 1st and 2nd gears but will not change up to 3rd he has been quoted e1500 for a local garage to have a look but cant afford that. He has checked the fluid levels. Has anybody got any ideas before he has to be transported home.
Thanks
Hutch

Doubt its the solenoids because they control 1 and 3, 2 and overdrive etc. First thing I would try is drop all the oil and change with new dextron 3. It should be nice and bright red not dull.
That is the cheapest option to try. Doubt the clutches have gone either they are opposite too 1&3 and 2&overdrive too.
If he has got Internet connection then do a search on here for gearbox code check.

Hey Hutch thanks for the quick reply yes I have seen the gearbox check codes but my son is in rural Germany and not mechanicly minded maybe it is best that he gets it back home, his insurance said they will fly him home and get the vehicle back here but it may take a while. He is gutted, was supposed to be away 3 months and only did 3 weeks.
