Check the oil level and colour. Should be a nice clean cherry red, if any other colour that's your problem.

Odd? Snow mode bypasses 1st and pulls off in second! Ditto to what nigel said. Oil dipstick located under drivers seat at back under the panel with three 10mm bolts.

usually is the oil, you may have a small leak under the car so check the gearbox for wet patches if oil is nice red colour and filled to level then its something else. If you need to top it up, the filler is the dipstick tube so small amounts at a time ;)

Welcome to the forums.

As they say check the oil as 1st port of call. Change it if in doubt. If the problem persists then try the procedure listed below. It has been posted on here several times.

RE4R01A/RL401A Transmission code retrieval procedure
1. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
2. Turn ignition to "OFF" position.
3. Set power shift switch to "AUTO" position.
4. Set overdrive switch to "ON" position.
5. Move selector lever to "P" position.
6. Turn ignition switch to "ON" position. (Do not start engine.)
7. Power shift indicator lamp will light for about 2 seconds. (indicating transmission computer is functioning) Proceed with the following instructions to retrieve any codes.
8. Turn ignition switch to "ACC" position.
9. Move selector lever to "D" position.
10. Set overdrive switch to "OFF" position.
11. Turn ignition switch to "ON" position. (Do not start engine)

-- Wait for more than 2 seconds after ignition switch "ON".

12. Move selecter lever to "2" position.
13. Set overdrive switch to "ON" position.
14. Move selector lever to "1" position.
15. Set overdrive switch to "OFF" position.
16. Depress accelerator pedal fully and release it.

Now, watch the power shift indicator lamp. It will flash a long flash followed by a series of 10 flashes. After the long flash, count the flashes and note if any of the 10 are longer. Any long flash indicates a problem. The number of the long flash is the fault code number. If multiple fault codes are contained in the computer, it will flash multiple groups of 10. If the 10 flashes are all of equal length (short), the transmission is OK and no fault codes are present.

17. Turn ignition off.. you are done. Refer to the code list below to decipher any codes displayed.

Transmission code list:

1. Vehicle speed sensor on the transmission
2. Vehical speed sensor in the dash
3. Throttle position sensor
4. Shift solenoid A
5. Shift solenoid B
6. Overrun clutch or timing solenoid
7. Lockup solenoid
8. Fluid temp sensor
9. Engine RPM signal
10. Line pressure control solenoid
