The Zexel copy of the Bosch VP37 is just like a standard Bosch-VE but without the governer and turbo compensation assembly. The lump at the top is just a glorified PWM servo (not too far different to the servos found in radio controlled toys) that drives the high pressure plunger control sleeve, and it has a solenoid at the bottom to alter injection timing based on feedback from a lift sensor on #1 injector. That makes it pretty much perfect for running on veg or biodiesel as the ECU compensates for veg oil's lower Cetane Number, or in my case, biodiesel's higher Cetane Number. So yes go wild ;)

Nicely. That servo analogy leads me to wonder, with the QA seemingly being a weak point on these pumps has anybody developed, DIY or otherwise, a conversion to cable operation? I'd imagine the EML from the missing QA could be dealt with by way of a resistor or 2 plugged into it's connector so it'd just leave working out a linkage and machining a new pump top or gutting/modifying a broken QA... Might see if anyone has a knackered pump or just the QA that they don't want & would send my way so I can have a look at that. (obviously it'd require some other means of limiting no-load revs for MoT purposes but I'm sure that could be arranged via a stop screw)

As well as the PWM driven coil down in the guts that does the rotation (45Hz), there are two coils on top, one is driven with 19kHz signal from the ECU and the other is a pickup, the signal strength changes with rotation (that brass bit that sticks out at the top rotates with the shaft - it's like a variable transformer). The ECU must use this for feedback about the rotational position.

I imagine by moving/thickening the fixed copper loop at the bottom some adjustment could be made. Or by attenuating/amplifying the feedback signal?

I'd imagine it must be possible to do then, maybe not particularly easy but possible. I guess some sort of "emulator" would be more appropriate as an eml solution though... With a bit of luck mine will be behaving when she arrives though so hoping not to have to get into any of that business haha (be here tomorrow with any luck, excited now! :) )

seen a couple of potential candidates on ebay but they want a bit much for them really. Well the headlamp I can just about swallow at £25 but £60 plus post for a wing is not on IMO. I know theyre "rare" and all, but equally that means the market for the parts is limited too. If it was the same dark metallic purple as mine it wouldn't be as bad but it's in highway star colours too.

Hopefully someone will have one more locally, perhaps with more minor damage or a frilly arch that they don't want or will sell cheaply, otherwise I'll just get the beanbag & hammers out for the moment & make the current wing MoT worthy at least. Fed up how slow the day seems to have gone so far haha, just want to get stuck into it! :D

Haha excellent, just had another look round & it's only bloody 4WD as well! never noticed the front driveshafts the other day, the diff's well hidden when you look from the middle! Only problem now is they can't deliver this week, can't say when they can the bastards. If they want me to pay £40 to bring it 7 miles they can bloody well tell me when at the least, should deliver when I say at that price. So trying to find someone to give me a tow now, anyone in south Cheshire want to earn a quick £30 and drag this thing for me? lol

oh I know there's issues with pulling an auto, but as I say it's only 7 miles so should be ok keeping the speed down. Plus I'll have the engine running so the hydraulic pump will actually be running. Just would rather not load the engine up until I've got it back & done a thorough check of the cooling system etc. :)

Mmmhmm good luck - I take it no tax/MOT? Unfortunately you can't get away with calling it a trailer (especially with the engine running) because it's over 750kg and unbraked. But what's the odds on getting stopped in 7 miles?

Alternatively if you can find a local recovery place they usually do flatbed recovery for £1 a mile both ways and a small callout fee. Should be able to move it for about £40 on your timing/terms?
