over fueling problem

Post by vampchick »

hi
think i have a over fueling problem with my petrol largo. the story goes like this bought the largo a few months ago and all seemed well although m.p.g. seemed poor. then about 3 weeks ago it started to overfuel when sat still at traffic lights or road junctions and the rev counter would go up and down nearly cutting the engine out there would be a strong smell of petrol and black smoke would come out of the exhaust this wouldn,t happen all the time and could sometimes go a few days without happening so thought maybe it was in need of a service. when i serviced the largo the air filter was in a poor state and the spark plugs were very sooty. fitted a new air filter spark plugs and fuel filter and the largo ran the best it has ever done idling around the 700 where as before it was around the 1000 mark the mpg seemed to have improved and the engine was more responsive. job done i thought untill 80 mile later and the fault is back even worse than before engine seems to be holding back when driving and when its idling revs are very erratic and m.p.g. is around 15. local garage read the fault codes but nothing was in there so any sugestions would be very welcome although my mechanical skills are very limited or does anyone know of a mechanic who is good with these vehicles in the nottinghamshire area. many thanks emma
