Hey hutch..it's a 1996 2l diesel highway star, I've not actually been to see the car but it seems in really nice cond. The owner has told me it has overheated once, it does loose water if you leave the radiator cap on and of you take it off it doesn't overheat or loose water

Re: overheating largo highway
Sounds a strange one but you really need to check the sump for signs of cross contamination. Also put the cap on and check for leaks around the water pump and thermostat area.

Re: overheating largo highway
The problem is I'm not going to see before I buy, the car seems to be in vgc and is a good price and I will have cash put aside for head gasket if need be. Without seeing it is difficult to say I was hoping it might be a blockage or a bad thermostat. As we have never owned one of these cars before I just thought you guys might have some ideas. The current owner said it has only overheated once but since has been off the road

Re: overheating largo highway
Hi and welcome to the forums.
If it is leaking out somewhere visible like a pipe then this will most likely lead to an airlock and will cause overheating. Sort the leak and the air lock and it should be fine.
Obviously if it isn't the head gasket.
