Hello All Nissan Largo lady owner needs some help please.
Hello everyone, I'm Sonia from Leicester pleased to meet you all.
My much loved 1996 Nissan largo is having problems and wondered if someone could point me in the right direction.
When driving along between 50 and 60 mpg she seems to not be able to make up her mind what gear to be in.
So far have checked transmission fluid and that is fine and clear, we have disconnected battery for couple of hours as suggested by someone, but the problem is still happening.
Can anyone tell me the best next step, is it the pan and filter or gearbox ecu.
Hope you can help thanks in advance.

Re: Hello All Nissan Largo lady owner needs some help please
Gearbox instruction's for which I take no credit just copied from elsewhere but I do know it works!
RE4R01A/RL401A Transmission code retrieval procedure
1. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
2. Turn ignition to "OFF" position.
3. Set power shift switch to "AUTO" position.
4. Set overdrive switch to "ON" position.
5. Move selector lever to "P" position.
6. Turn ignition switch to "ON" position. (Do not start engine.)
7. Power shift indicator lamp will light for about 2 seconds. (indicating transmission computer is functioning) Proceed with the following instructions to retrieve any codes.
8. Turn ignition switch to "ACC" position.
9. Move selector lever to "D" position.
10. Set overdrive switch to "OFF" position.
11. Turn ignition switch to "ON" position. (Do not start engine)
-- Wait for more than 2 seconds after ignition switch "ON".
12. Move selecter lever to "2" position.
13. Set overdrive switch to "ON" position.
14. Move selector lever to "1" position.
15. Set overdrive switch to "OFF" position.
16. Depress accelerator pedal fully and release it.
Now, watch the power shift indicator lamp. It will flash a long flash followed by a series of 10 flashes. After the long flash, count the flashes and note if any of the 10 are longer. Any long flash indicates a problem. The number of the long flash is the fault code number. If multiple fault codes are contained in the computer, it will flash multiple groups of 10. If the 10 flashes are all of equal length (short), the transmission is OK and no fault codes are present.
17. Turn ignition off.. you are done. Refer to the code list below to decipher any codes displayed.
Transmission code list:
1. Vehicle speed sensor on the transmission
2. Vehical speed sensor in the dash
3. Throttle position sensor
4. Shift solenoid A
5. Shift solenoid B
6. Overrun clutch or timing solenoid
7. Lockup solenoid
8. Fluid temp sensor
9. Engine RPM signal
10. Line pressure control solenoid

Re: Hello All Nissan Largo lady owner needs some help please
Hi, we have run the transmission diagnostic.
It does a long flash followed by 10 short and continues with the same pattern.
The instructions you sent I'm not sure if this means no faults or multiple faults.
Can you help.
Thankyou

Means no faults.
Recheck fluid level and that the colour is a nice cherry red.
Fluid level is quite difficult to check.
I assume the gearbox is not leaking in anyway.

Re: Hello All Nissan Largo lady owner needs some help please
Hi, transmission fluid was checked on even ground with engine running, and the fluid was cherry red and at the right level on the dipstick, no not leaking.
Can I just add that when engine cold she sometimes doesn't want to change up to top gear, but other days it's perfect, then when running to normal temperature this is when she can't make up her mind when she gets to between 50 and 60 mph.
It also suddenley revs high whilst driving but only done this twice.
Can you tell me if it is safe to drive like this or should I leave her on drive till sorted.
Thanks for continuing to help me it is much appreciated.

Re: Hello All Nissan Largo lady owner needs some help please
Should be fine to drive.
Try using snow and power mode with overdrive off. see if it makes any difference.
Perfectly normal for it to not lockdown(top gear) when cold.
Does it hold speed @ 70 without changing ?
Might need to do code read when the problem happens as it sounds intermittent.
