Wannabe largo owner
Hi there. I don't actually own a Largo yet.
I'm a restaurant manager and looking to buy a people carrier that I can convert into a camper and run on used veg oil for work.
Joined up here to try and find out more about these cars/van as there is almost no info on the web.

Sorry but largo fuel pumps are too expensive to keep replacing. I doubt it would run veg oil like newer cars can.

Actually newer engines can't run on veg oil. Largo engine should be fine as its the same basic engine as a primers td but with an intercooler. How reliable with normal diesel are the fuel pumps. How much are you looking at to replace one

Think the going rate was about £900 for a recon. Nearer 2k from Nissan.

Personally I'd go for a ford galaxy td 98 ish. Cheap as chips (pardon the punn) to repair.

Does anyone know what make and design of fuel pump the largo uses. Looking at a post 1996.
Hate the galaxy. can pick a good one up for about £900 now. A good largo is what min £2000. Theres a reason for this

My other 2 options are a mazda bongo or mitsi L400 Delica.
I've owned 3 nissans in the past and loved them. Bongos seem to be over priced and not as reliable as you would think. Really do prefer the Largos interior to any them.

Ran a few cars on straight veg oil in the past and would say good for 20k then the problems start which was always the seals in the fuel pumps. After about 20k they would start leaking at the seams and it was all downhill from there. Cars included pug 106 306 405 and mondeo . This was straight oil in the tank with no diesel! If you plan to buy pre 96 then the pump is mechanical everything after is electronic fly by wire. The engines are indirect injection with swirl pots in all cases. You would probably be OK running if you pre heat first and I believe this was the cause of failure on each car that I mentioned as the oil is much thicker and takes a far greater effort to pump. Winter starting was painful in ways I can't describe but summer starting was great. The company that made the pumps was bought by Bosch for the technology rights but can't recall the original manufacturer name.

Twin tanks can also be a good idea with switch over solonoids and a copper coolant fed pre heater in the oil tank.

If your willing to build a biodiesel processor then you could produce biodiesel and run it straight. Also runs cleaner and more efficient than pump diesel.
The process is quite simple and there's lots of info on Google and YouTube.
