Hello from Telford

Hello everyone. Just thought I would say HELLO and introduce myself and my Largo.
I have recently bought a Highway Star after my Previous Largo was stolen!
After searching for a spacious car for weeks and weeks, I stumbled across the Largo and have loved them ever since. So when my first one was taken away from me, I just had to have another.
The star has a little issue which I can't seem to sort. The alternator belt keeps snapping?? I have had it replaced twice. Then my mechanic friend said one of the pulleys had a lot of play in it. This was replaced last week, but I'm starting to smell burning rubber again!!! I will have a look later to see if there is any signs of wear in the new belt.
Anyway, any ideas or fixes on my Stars little problem would be most appreciated.
Hopefully speak more very soon :D

Hey Chaele and welcome to the forums.

Could your alternator be over taxed somehow or maybe it's bearings going?
Not sure if there is anything else on that belt that would cause this problem.
Pop a thread in the help section and you will get more help ;)

Thanks both for the info. I will check the belt later after giving it a run around. It's a bit of a pain when I want to take it for a long drive. You never know if it's gonna break miles away from home!
Oh well, I will just have to join the AA now.

Thanks

Yeah also if it snaps you loose your brakes too as the vacuum pump is on the back of the alternator.

hi and welcome to the forum

now the belt... tensioner bearing on way out ? or could be the fact its been overtightened which will both do the bearing in and snap the belt, can also scrap the alternator as a tight belt knacker the bearing in that too.
if the belt has less than an inch of movement on the longest run its too tight, undo until you can turn the alternator wheel by hand. Then tighten it up till it dont turn no more.
