stitched up!

Post by Neilg »

Hello, Ive recently bought a 2.0 diesel largo - 3 months ago - and I love it but I bought on trust knowing nothing about cars and having no one to check it out for me. I asked if it was fully working etc.. and paid the price she asked. Travelled from Bath to Dover on the national express with my daughter (who is Downs) and the lady I bought it from said she was in a real hurry so handed the money over, cash of course and set off to the M25 and M4. I'll say at this time that I am female as I might be sounding a real idiot! As it started to get dark I tried to put on the lights and could only get side lights, so travelled down the motorways for 5 hrs on sidelights both of us absolutely petrified. Next day took it to a garage who said the front lights werent working - she must have known that - so got them fixed, then had to have new brakes, then it over heated last week and with water pouring out of the bottom and its cost another £270 to have the back heating sealed off and when they were doing that they noticed the alternator was hanging by a thread so they fixed that and as they handed it back to me they said the overheating could not be fixed because the 4 fans were not working and they could not find the electrics to test it and the ECU?! So took it to an electrical place and they also said they couldnt find it and I should scrap it!!!! It is still on finance for another 2 yrs !!!! and I dont want to scrap it!! Have booked it in at another garage for this Tues and wondered if there is anyone on this forum who might know where to look for the electrics? and will it involve taking the 2 front seats out again as this seems to add to the cost of everything.
Other things that were wrong are too numerous to list - chip on windscreen hidden by mobile phone holder, seat belts in the back so twisted they are unusable, no reverse lights, radio system not working etc etc etc.
Hoping someone will know as I am now quite demented!

I'm sorry to hear that. Can't they just wire the fans up to a dash switch, or one to the ignition so it is always on when the engine is running?

It may just be the water temp sensor isn't working, really needs plugging into a code reader to see what is what.

Does sound like you bought a right pup, the seller must have known these things were wrong with it.

thank you for answering - the car has gone in this morning and he said it may be the ecu unit that is broken. I did buy one off ebay this w/end in anticipation of it being that but he says they have to be individually programmed to each car and that may be prohibitive. I have my fingers crossed! I will pass on your suggestions. Jill
